West Ridge Physicians and Employees Participate in the 2009 JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge

Posted on: 05/29/2009

West Ridge OB/GYN physicians and employees competed among more than 9,000 participants in Rochester’s 19th annual Chase Corporate Challenge®.  Despite the heavy rains, 26 employees and 6 physicians ran/walked the 3.5 mile event on Rochester Institute of Technology’s campus.

Exactly 9,059 runners from 414 companies took part in an event that has been held in the Flower City each spring since 1991.  The participants made a tangible difference in the community as the JPMorgan Chase Foundation made a donation for each of its entries to the Urban League of Rochester, with the funds specifically ear-marked for Youth Workforce Development.

About the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge®

Inspired by their successful sponsorship of the New York City Marathon, bank officials looked for a way to create an event solely for corporate runners, and at a distance for which even a busy executive would have time to train.  The idea took on a life of its own in 1977 when 200 runners from 50 companies gathered in Central Park for the inaugural race in what then was called the Manufacturers Hanover Corporate Challenge®.

"The growth of the Corporate Challenge® is a testimony to JPMorgan Chase’s continuing support of health and fitness, teamwork and camaraderie in the corporate communities across the U.S. and abroad,” said Barbara Paddock, senior vice president for the bank.

The Series sends a message that it is not just fiscal fitness that is important in the corporate world.  Physical fitness also is important.  Participating companies use the races as a platform to promote fitness and well-being in the work place.
